Group Protests Israel’s Gaza Operation at FIDF’s NY Office

Today, July 22, in New York City, demonstrators participated in civil disobedience at the offices of Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) on Broadway between 40th and 39th.

Carolyn Klaasen, a protestor and member of Jewish Voice for Peace, an organizer of today’s protest against the FIDF, said: “We are engaging in civil disobedience at the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces because the IDF and Israeli government are responsible for the systematic and ongoing brutality against the Palestinian people. In this most recent vicious assault alone, the IDF has caused the deaths of upwards of 550 Palestinians, including more than 100 children, as well as over 3000 injured. Calling the IDF a defense force is absurd; it’s an illegally occupying army.”

Jewish protestors broke in and occupied the office of the Friends of the IDF earlier this morning. They were protesting the current operation in Gaza and demanding that the organization stop funding the IDF.

NYPD immediately arrived at the scene and attempted to remove the demonstrators, but they would not move. These Jewish protestors stood in the middle of the IDF office reciting names of Gaza civilians that have been killed as a result of the war.

At least eight protestors have been arrested.

The FIDF is one of the largest and most visible Jewish groups in the US.

An editor at Mondoweiss was on the scene and live tweeted as events unfolded:
